Words of smoke & soul.

Hillary Rain: writer, artist, & believer.

Yes, lots of incense. Everyday.

Yes, lots of incense. Everyday.

Once the soul awakens, the search begins and you can never go back. From then on, you are inflamed with a special longing that will never again let you linger in the lowlands of complacency and partial fulfillment. The eternal makes you urgent. You are loath to let compromise or the threat of danger hold you back from striving toward the summit of fulfillment.
— John O'Donohue
Our work is to show we have been breathed upon—to show it, give it out, sing it out, to live out in the topside world what we have received through our sudden knowings, from body, from dreams and journeys of all sorts.
— Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Hello, you wild and perfect being
who is so adored.

I like to say that I just want to be cozy, make beautiful things, and share what I love.

One of my favorite online creatives told me: “My best marketing tip? Tell the world about what you love and never stop telling us why you love it.”

You can stop searching for your life purpose now, because: THIS.

So it begs the question—if I lived every day in a way that someone could look over my life and know exactly what I love, what would they see?

Hillary Rain

Right now it looks like I love sitting in bed in my pajamas while my bathroom needs a good scrubbing and I need to re-wash my sheets, because they sat in the washer too long and the Texas heat worked a little sour voodoo.

Right now they'd see a shocking amount of dust adorning my tables and stuck in the soy wax of half-burned candles.

They'd see piles of papers, piles of clothes that don't love my curves, and all the old lipsticks & hair products & perfumes I started sorting through but abandoned—because I got overwhelmed.

I think right now it's clearer what I don't love. I want to change that.

Because the truth is, those papers are the blueprints of a wildly fulfilling and anointed life.

They'd see that birth is messy, and I'm birthing new and powerful things.

They'd see the flowering of an unexpected outpouring of Spirit.

They'd see up-all-night wrestling in the dark, and waking up to joy.

So right now, I'm working on embodying what is true.

Because I love the Truth.

As you know (because you are so beautifully here), I am Hillary Rain. And here are some other things you might want to know...

I am a writer, artist & believer.

I'm an old married lady married to the love of my life.

I am passionate about eschatology which is the study of end-times in scripture and prophecy. I believe we are living in the last days. I'm writing about this in an informal series on my blog.

Rain is a name I use as an adornment, because it reminds me of mercy.

My creative river flows in words and pictures.

Truth and love, because what else?
